Materials Science and Engineering

2023 ANNUAL REPORT

Department Head’s Welcome

In May, the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at The University of Texas at Dallas (MSE at UTD) completed another successful academic year in 2022-2023. Our faculty have been busy with several new grants and are engaged in strategic programs at the University level as well as through regional and national initiatives in energy and microelectronics. To further strengthen our impact, two new faculty joined our team in fall 2023: Dr. Kevin Brenner and Dr. Laisuo Su. Brenner’s research portfolio includes phonon and electron transport in materials and devices to better control thermal and electrical energy. Su’s research focuses on renewable energy devices, especially rechargeable batteries such as lithium-ion, sodium-ion and zinc-ion batteries

In this annual report, you will learn about the incredible accomplishments of our faculty as well as notable achievements of our students. Finally, this year’s success could not have been possible without the amazing support of our administrative and technical staff. Our goal for the upcoming year is to ensure that MSE at UTD continues to inspire a culture that promotes a collaborative, supportive and welcoming environment for all.

Best regards,

Dr. Manuel Quevedo-Lopez
